It’s official: Theo Bongonda is set to join Racing Genk, the newly crowned Belgian champions. The 23-year-old Belgian winger, of Congolese (DRC) descent, is moving from Zulte Waregem after a standout season in which he scored 14 goals and provided 14 assists across all competitions.
According to Het Nieuwsblad, Genk and Zulte Waregem have reached a verbal agreement on the transfer. The reported fee of €7 million makes this the most expensive transfer ever between two Jupiler Pro League clubs.
Bongonda, who was signed by Zulte-Waregem from Celta Vigo last summer for €1.6 million, is set to sign a four-year contract with Racing Genk, officially completing a high-profile domestic move.
