Mamelodi Sundowns have reportedly decided against selling Thembinkosi Lorch to Kaizer Chiefs, instead offering him on loan to Moroccan powerhouse Wydad Casablanca.
With the transfer window closing on Tuesday at midnight, the 31-year-old’s future remains uncertain.
Chiefs had expressed interest in signing Lorch, but Sundowns are reluctant to strengthen a direct rival in the second half of the Betway Premiership season.
According to SABC Sport, Wydad—coached by former Pirates assistant Rulani Mokwena—has until Friday to finalize a deal. Meanwhile, Lorch is eager to leave and explore new opportunities.
A move to Wydad would not only reunite Lorch with Mokwena but also allow him to test himself in a new league with one of Africa’s most successful clubs.
This would mark a significant career shift, as he has spent his entire professional career in South Africa.
Had he joined Chiefs, Lorch would have followed in the footsteps of Marc Batchelor, Jimmy Tau, and Jabu Mahlangu—players who have represented both Soweto giants.
However, with time running out, Sundowns hold the final say on where one of South Africa’s top talents will play next.
