Former vice president of the Ghana Football Association, Fred Pappoe has opened up on the Black Stars inability to secure qualification to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The Black Stars will for the first time in 20-years miss the prestigious tournament after failing to finish among top two countries in Group F.
Ghana endured a terrible run in the AFCON qualifications, losing three games and drawing three games across the period.
Speaking to the Ghanaian media, Pappoe, a former management committee chairman of the Black Stars said he is not entirely surprised with Ghana’s qualification failure, saying the signs were clear.
“Everyone associated with football is not happy about what has gone on that, Ghana will not be part of assembly of African footballing nations at the AFCON 2025. It’s very unfortunate and I think is something that gives a lot of pain. My assessment is that it is an unfortunate situation and unfortunate development”
“Of course, it was coming considering our performances in the past two AFCON tournament. It was something which was clear for all of us to see that things were not going on well with the team. Our performances has not been anything to be proud off in the qualifiers. We saw signs and the signals were clear on the wall so this is not entirely surprising”
The Black Stars will now shift their attention to the 2026 World Cup qualifications scheduled for March 2025.
