AFCON 2015: ADIDAS UNVEILS “MARHABA”, THE OFFICIAL MATCH BALL
The countdown to the 2015 African Cup of Nations just got more exciting. On Wednesday, Adidas and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) revealed the tournament’s official match ball — Marhaba, which means “welcome” in Arabic.
According to CAF, Marhaba incorporates the same cutting-edge technology used in Brazuca, the official ball of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Its design and performance are engineered for top-level football, promising a dynamic and reliable match experience for the continent’s biggest tournament.
“The dominant gold and blue colors on the ball are intended to reflect the diverse landscapes of an Africa with diverse ecosystems. From the azure blue of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans to the golden hue of the Sahara Desert,” the official statement reads.
The official unveiling of Marhaba will take place on December 3rd during the AFCON 2015 draw in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. Fans will get to see the ball in action starting January 17th, 2015, when the tournament kicks off.
Marhaba succeeds Katlego (“success”), the official ball of AFCON 2013 in South Africa.
