After Abidjan and Ouagadougou, the Night of African Football (NFA) is set to make its debut in Lomé, bringing one of the continent’s most prestigious football celebrations to Togo’s capital. The 6th edition of the NFA will take place on July 27, 2019, highlighting the theme: “Sport, a driver of development in Africa.” The event will feature two panels with renowned speakers discussing the role of football in promoting growth and unity across the continent.
The gala will honor 11 legendary figures from African and world football. Among those recognized are Cameroonian Roger Milla; Ghanaians Samuel Kuffour and Abedi Pelé; Nigerians Nwankwo Kanu and Augustine Okocha; Egyptian Mohamed Aboutrika; Congolese Moïse Katumbi, president of TP Mazembe; Ivorian Didier Drogba; Italian Paolo Maldini; Senegalese player agent Thierno Seydi; and Togolese Emmanuel Adebayor.
The event will also attract a host of other high-profile guests, including honorary NFA members Patrick Mboma, Joseph Antoine Bell, Geremi Njitap, and Cyrille Domoraud, alongside football icons Marcel Desailly, El Hadji Diouf, Thierry Henry, Samuel Eto’o, Nourredine Naybet, and coaches Hervé Renard and Paulo Duarte.
A highlight of the evening will be a gala match featuring Togolese football stars facing off against African legends. Proceeds from this match will be dedicated to charitable initiatives, reflecting the event’s commitment to giving back to the community.
Since its inception in 2013, the NFA has celebrated African football excellence, with previous editions held in Abidjan (2013–2016) and Ouagadougou (2017). Bringing the NFA to Lomé marks another milestone in its mission to recognize the contributions of players, coaches, and officials who have shaped the continent’s football legacy.
