The news broke on Friday that the five individuals involved in the late-night incident between the two playoff matches for Euro 2013 will appear before the disciplinary committee of the French Football Federation (FFF) on November 8.
Wissam Ben Yedder, Antoine Griezmann, Chris Mavinga, Yann M’villa, and Mbaye Niang are scheduled to appear at the FFF headquarters at 10 a.m. (French time) to provide justifications for “their behavior observed during the October gathering” of the Espoirs (Under-21) selection, as stated in a press release from the French football institution.
The five players had engaged in late-night activities during the gathering of the Espoirs in Le Havre, including a visit to a nightclub in Paris. The subsequent poor performance of the French U21 team a few days later against Norway (5-3) was attributed to this late-night outing.
In response to the incident, their coach Erick Mombaerts took disciplinary action. Chris Mavinga and Yann M’villa also faced sanctions at their club, Rennes. The disciplinary committee will now evaluate the players’ justifications in light of the observed behavior during the gathering.
