André Ayew and his brother Jordan have reportedly confirmed their provisional withdrawal from the Ghana national team, according to foot01.com. The Ayew brothers, sons of Abedi Ayew Pelé, were initially called up for the match against Sudan in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers but have expressed their desire to take a break.
Following their non-selection for the CAN 2013, the Olympique de Marseille players had already suspended their participation in Black Stars activities. Jordan Ayew, in particular, expressed disappointment with the perceived lack of recognition from the country’s technical staff, stating, “Every time I had the opportunity to play for my country, I gave the best of myself and served my country with commitment. But it seems my efforts never impressed the coaching staff.”
In early March, the Ghana Football Association urged the Ayew brothers to reconsider their decision. Kwesi Nyantaki, the president of the federation, mentioned in a press release, “We have asked Jordan to reconsider his decision and make himself available for the next Black Stars call-ups. For André, the GFA would very much like to know the details of his grievances in order to reach a friendly agreement.” The resolution of this matter remains to be seen.
