Orlando Pirates defender Thabiso Sesane has expressed his overwhelming emotions after receiving his first call-up to South Africa’s national football team, Bafana Bafana. The 24-year-old, who has been included in head coach Hugo Broos’ squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, described the moment as a dream come true.

Sesane is one of the 23 players selected to represent South Africa in their crucial back-to-back AFCON qualifiers against Congo.

The defender, who has had a challenging journey to reach this point in his career, shared how deeply moved he was when he received the life-changing news.

“The moment I found out I was in the Bafana Bafana squad, I was so happy,” Sesane revealed in an interview with orlandopiratesfc.com.

At the same time, I was crying. I called my mom, and she was so happy for me.”

Sesane’s inclusion in the national team marks a significant milestone in his career, which has seen him overcome various challenges, including loan spells and limited opportunities.

After returning to the Buccaneers following those loan stints, the young defender had to patiently wait for his moment to shine.

He eventually earned his place in the first team, making his starting debut against Sekhukhune United in March.

Now, Sesane has the chance to represent South Africa at the international level, a prospect that brings both excitement and responsibility.

As part of a strong contingent of Orlando Pirates players called up for the AFCON qualifiers, Sesane joins four of his club teammates in the squad.

The team is preparing for two key matches that will determine South Africa’s path to the AFCON 2025 tournament.

The first fixture sees Bafana Bafana face Congo in Gqeberha on Friday, followed by the return leg in Brazzaville next Tuesday.

With both matches holding immense importance for South Africa’s qualification hopes, Sesane is eager to seize the opportunity should he be selected to play.

Despite his relatively recent emergence at the senior level, the young defender has shown great resilience and determination throughout his journey.

His hard work and patience have paid off, culminating in this historic moment for his career.

For Sesane, donning the Bafana Bafana jersey is not only an individual achievement but also a source of pride for his family and the Orlando Pirates supporters who have backed him along the way.

As South Africa prepares for these crucial encounters, Sesane remains focused on delivering his best performance, whether in training or on the pitch.

His journey to the national team is a testament to perseverance and dedication, and he hopes to make a lasting impression as Bafana Bafana aim for success in their AFCON qualifiers.
