Tewfik Mohamed undergoes medical ahead of expected Al Ahly move

Tewfik Mohamed is undergoing a medical as he closes in on a move to Al Ahly from Petrojet, with the Egyptian club seeking a replacement for injured Morocco left-back Youssef Belammari.

The 26-year-old is having the examination at a hospital in Giza on Friday, according to FilGoal.com. Al Ahly have already reached an agreement with Petrojet over the transfer during the summer window.

A source told FilGoal.com on Thursday that Mohamed had signed a five-year contract with Al Ahly, completing the formal terms of his move to the Cairo club.

Al Ahly are moving quickly to strengthen at left-back after Belammari was ruled out for the entire season. The Morocco international suffered a cruciate ligament tear in his knee during Al Ahly’s friendly against Spanish side Badalona.

Mohamed has been with Petrojet since 2022 and made 31 appearances for the club last season, contributing one assist.

Across his domestic career, the left-back has played 55 matches in the league, cup and Super Cup competitions. He has created two goals in those appearances.

His expected arrival comes as Al Ahly continue preparations for the new campaign during their training camp in Spain. The team began their first friendly match of the camp against Badalona with Karim Fouad playing at left-back.

Belammari was introduced after half-time and took up the same position before his injury.

Al Ahly’s camp will run until 20 August and includes intensive daily training sessions as well as a series of friendly matches. The club are also scheduled to face Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy on 19 August.

The Egyptian champions will then begin their league campaign against Eastern Company and ENPPI, before ending the first half of the season against Wadi Degla.

Mohamed’s move is expected to provide Al Ahly with additional cover in a position that has become a priority following Belammari’s serious injury. His medical represents the next step before the club formally announce the signing.
