Teungueth FC wins Senegal Ligue 1 title

Teungueth FC have been crowned champions of the 2025/26 Senegalese Ligue 1 following a crucial victory over Guediawaye FC on the final day of the season.

The club secured the title on Thursday, 4 June, after edging Guediawaye FC 1-0 in a decisive Matchday 30 encounter, capping off a thrilling championship race that went down to the wire.

The triumph marks another historic achievement for Teungueth FC, who showed remarkable consistency throughout the campaign to emerge as the best team in Senegal’s top flight. Their title success was made even more impressive by the fierce competition from AJEL Rufisque, who pushed them all the way until the final round of fixtures.

Following the victory, jubilant scenes erupted within the club, with Teungueth celebrating the achievement on social media.

The championship race had been one of the most captivating stories of the season. At various stages, AJEL Rufisque appeared capable of securing a historic league crown, but Teungueth produced a strong finish to overtake their rivals and claim top spot when it mattered most.

Over the course of the 2025/26 campaign, Teungueth accumulated 54 points from 30 league matches. Their success was built on an outstanding defensive record, with the champions conceding only six goals throughout the season while scoring 21 times.

The team’s defensive solidity proved to be a decisive factor in their title-winning campaign. While they may not have been the most prolific side in front of goal, their ability to consistently keep opponents at bay enabled them to collect valuable points and remain in contention until the final day.

The championship triumph also comes with a significant reward. As Senegal’s league champions, Teungueth FC have secured qualification for next season’s CAF Champions League, where they will represent the West African nation on the continental stage.

The club will now have an opportunity to test themselves against some of Africa’s elite teams as they seek to make an impact in the continent’s premier club competition.

Meanwhile, AJEL Rufisque were left heartbroken despite ending their season with a victory over Generation Foot. Although they finished level on 54 points with Teungueth, they were forced to settle for second place.

Having come so close to winning the title, AJEL can nevertheless take pride in an impressive campaign that established them as one of the strongest teams in Senegalese football. However, it was Teungueth who ultimately held their nerve in the decisive moments to secure the championship.

For Teungueth FC, the title represents the culmination of months of hard work, discipline and determination. Their consistency across the season, coupled with a rock-solid defence and an ability to grind out results under pressure, ensured they emerged as worthy champions of Senegal for the 2025/26 season.

With the league trophy secured and CAF Champions League football on the horizon, Teungueth supporters can now look forward to another exciting chapter in the club’s history.
