Terrence Mashego: South African left-back linked with Stellenbosch FC move from Sundowns
Terrence Mashego, the South African left-back currently on the books at Sundowns, is being linked with a move to Betway Premiership rivals Stellenbosch FC. The 30-year-old is understood to be attracting interest from the Cape club as they assess experienced options on the left side of defence ahead of the new campaign.
Mashego, born in Mamelodi, Gauteng, returned to Sundowns this summer after a season-long loan spell at Durban City FC, with that stint formally ending on 30 June 2026. His situation in Tshwane now appears uncertain, and Stellenbosch are monitoring developments as they weigh up whether Sundowns will be open to negotiations.
The defender, who is left-footed and stands at 1.72m, has accumulated over 100 Betway Premiership appearances, contributing one goal and five assists in the competition while surpassing 8,000 minutes of league action. He also has experience in continental competition, featuring in both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, where he has added a further goal.
Mashego joined Sundowns from Cape Town City in September 2022 in a deal worth around 582,000 and has since seen his market value rise to 600,000 as of early June. His most recent loan to Durban City FC underlined Sundowns willingness to find him regular minutes, a factor that could influence their stance if a formal approach from Stellenbosch arrives.
With no public indication of a fixed contract end date at Sundowns, any move to Stellenbosch would be expected to involve a transfer fee rather than a free transfer, leaving the onus on the two clubs to find common ground if interest solidifies into talks.
