Terem Moffi misses Nigeria match with knee problem

Hamburger SV are monitoring Terem Moffi after the summer signing developed persistent knee problems, raising doubts over his short-term availability.

The 27-year-old Nigerian striker will miss Friday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match between Nigeria and Madagascar because of the issue. Moffi has also been unable to join HSV’s team training this week, as the club takes a cautious approach to his recovery.

The discomfort first emerged after Hamburg’s 2-1 victory over FC Köln. Moffi was replaced at half-time, with eventual scorer Yussuf Poulsen coming on in his place. Since then, the left-footed forward has undergone treatment at the Volksparkstadion rather than training with his teammates.

His individual programme currently includes light exercises under rehabilitation coach Sebastian Capel, alongside ongoing medical treatment. While most of the HSV squad will begin a four-day break on Thursday, Moffi is expected to remain in Hamburg and continue his recovery work throughout the weekend.

There is no confirmed timetable for his return to full training or competitive action. Hamburg will assess his progress carefully before making a decision on his availability, with the priority being to settle the knee problem completely and avoid an extended absence.
