The much-anticipated announcement of Didier Six’s successor as Togo’s national football team coach remains delayed, despite the shortlist of five potential candidates being leaked to the public last week.
In an exclusive report by Africa Top Sports, the list of names was revealed, with two Togolese coaches making the cut. However, a week has passed, and the Ministry of Sports alongside the Togolese Football Federation (FTF) have yet to officially disclose who will be appointed to the role. This uncertainty has left many in the local football community speculating over the delay.
The shortlist, according to sources, includes a mix of local and international names. Among the contenders are French coaches Hubert Velud and Didier Six, who is still technically in charge of the national team, Belgian Tom Saintfiet, and Togolese football figures Tchanilé Tchakala and Jean-Paul Abalo.
Jean-Paul Abalo, a former captain of the Eperviers, is currently at the helm of FC Deols, a club playing in France’s Division d’Honneur. His inclusion on the shortlist underscores his experience both as a player and in management.
As anticipation grows, the delay in the announcement has raised questions about the process and the eventual choice to lead Togo’s national team moving forward.
