Luis Suarez Awaits Court of Arbitration for Sport Verdict After FIFA Ban Hearing
Luis Suarez appeared before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) last Friday in an attempt to have his four-month suspension from all FIFA-related activities reduced. The Uruguayan striker, currently with FC Barcelona, is now awaiting the court’s decision, which is expected within ten days, according to the Catalan newspaper Sport.
Suarez’s lawyer, Alejandro Balbi, described the hearing as “intense” but expressed moderate satisfaction with the process. “All parties were able to be heard with guarantees,” Balbi said after the five-hour session.
The ban was handed down following Suarez’s infamous biting incident involving Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini during the 2014 World Cup. As a result, Suarez is barred from training with Barcelona teammates, playing in friendly or official matches, and entering Camp Nou until the suspension expires.
The striker’s return to competitive football is currently projected for the end of October, pending the CAS ruling.
