Former Zamalek and Egyptian national team star Tarek Yahya has emphasized that the first football team of Zamalek Club was the first Egyptian team to reach the Club World Cup.
Speaking on the program “Al-Laeeb” broadcasted on MBC Egypt, Tarek Yahya stated, “Two goals changed the entire course of Al Ahly Club’s life, Mohamed Aboutrika’s goal against Esperance Sportive de Tunis and the penalty missed by Atef El-Tayeb in the matches against Sudanese side Al-Hilal and South African side Mamelodi Sundowns.”
He further added, “Al Ahly Club has a great history, but these two goals significantly altered Ahly’s trajectory, leading them to participate in the Club World Cup.”
Continuing, he said, “Zamalek was the first Egyptian club to reach the Club World Cup in Japan, but our luck was not on our side with the tournament being canceled.”
