Simba SC have secured the loan signing of young Tanzanian striker Selemani Mwalimu from Wydad Casablanca for the 2025/26 campaign.

The 19-year-old forward, recruited by Wydad during the last winter transfer window, struggled to convince the Moroccan side’s coaching staff and had fallen out of manager Mohamed Amine Benhachem’s plans.

Despite being under contract with the Red and Whites until 2029, Mwalimu was placed on the club’s list of unwanted players, prompting the search for a temporary solution.

Discussions over a potential move to Iraq were held earlier in the summer, but the player rejected the proposal in favour of keeping his long-term ambition of moving to Europe alive.

With no firm offers arriving from the continent, a return to Tanzania with Simba SC emerged as the most suitable option for all parties involved.

The deal has been finalised as a one-year loan without an option to buy, with Simba paying an estimated $30,000 fee.

The arrangement allows Wydad to move the forward off their books temporarily while giving Mwalimu the opportunity to relaunch his career in familiar surroundings.

At 19, Mwalimu remains regarded as a player with potential.

Valued at around €50,000, the Tanzanian U21 international now has the chance to demonstrate his ability and gain much-needed playing time at one of the country’s most successful clubs.

For Simba, the signing is seen as an investment in the future as they continue to build a squad capable of competing both domestically and in continental competitions.

For the player himself, the move represents a fresh start after a difficult spell in Morocco.

Returning to his homeland, he will look to rebuild confidence and prove he can fulfil the promise that convinced Wydad to sign him less than a year ago.

While his long-term future remains uncertain, Mwalimu’s immediate task is clear: to make an impact at Simba SC, regain sharpness, and remind suitors in Africa and beyond of his potential. The loan may only last one season, but for both the striker and the Tanzanian giants, it could prove decisive in shaping the next stage of his career.
