Tanzania have secured their place at the 2026 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after overcoming Ethiopia 3-0 on aggregate in the final round of qualifiers, marking another significant milestone in their rise in African women’s football.
The Twiga Stars laid the foundation in the first leg in Dar es Salaam with a dominant 2-0 win.
Captain Aisha Mnunka opened the scoring in the 7th minute, displaying the leadership and quality that has made her a pivotal figure in the team’s recent success. Jamila Rajabu doubled the lead in the 54th minute to give Tanzania firm control of the tie.
Despite the challenge of playing the second leg away in Addis Ababa, Tanzania remained composed and tactically disciplined.
Head coach Bakari Shime’s side soaked up early Ethiopian pressure before substitute Diana Lucas struck in the 60th minute to seal a decisive 1-0 victory on the day and confirm qualification.
The result underscores the steady progress of the Twiga Stars, who are emerging as one of East Africa’s most formidable teams on the continental stage.
