Tanzania open training camp in Egypt ahead of AFCON 2025
The Tanzania national football team has opened camp in Cairo, Egypt, as preparations intensify for the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025.
The tournament, scheduled for December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026 in Morocco, will see the Taifa Stars competing in Group C alongside Nigeria, Tunisia and Uganda.
The decision to camp in Egypt offers Tanzania ideal conditions to acclimatise ahead of the competition, with the climate and training environment closely mirroring what awaits them in Morocco.
The team began training on Monday under the guidance of Argentine head coach Pablo Gamondi, who is focused on steering the Taifa Stars into the knockout stages.
The squad includes seasoned forward Mbwana Samatta, who plays in France, and the experienced Simon Msuva, currently based in Iraq, both of whom bring leadership and attacking threat to the team.
Tanzania will kick off their AFCON journey on December 23 against Nigeria in Fez, before facing regional rivals Uganda on December 27 and rounding off their group campaign against Tunisia on December 30.
