Tanzanian football is facing another blow as former Federation president Amal Malinzi has been hit with a FIFA sanction while serving a prison sentence for embezzlement.
FIFA found Malinzi guilty of mismanaging substantial funds between 2013 and 2017, which were allocated for the organization’s Financial Assistance Programs (FAP). The funds were reportedly used without proper documentation.
Additionally, in 2017, he diverted $55,000 in U17 team bonuses, originally intended for players after the AFCON, to other purposes.
Violating Articles 24 and 28 of FIFA’s Code of Ethics, Malinzi has been banned from all football-related activities for 10 years and fined 500,000 Swiss francs.
This ruling comes on top of his ongoing legal troubles in Tanzania, further tarnishing his legacy in African football.
