Aduana Stars FC General Manager, Takyi Arhin, popularly known as Thunder, has strongly criticized investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas over his exposé on former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi.
Arhin asserts that Anas’ probe and subsequent revelations have significantly regressed Ghanaian football, setting it back by five decades.
Speaking on ChannelOne TV, he reacted to Nyantakyi’s recent discharge by the High Court of Ghana, where the former GFA president had faced charges of fraud and corruption stemming from the exposé.
“The Anas exposé has taken us back to about 50 years, our football has not been the same as it was during the days of Kwesi,” Arhin remarked.
He further emphasized Nyantakyi’s influence on Ghanaian and African football, suggesting that his removal from office negatively impacted the nation’s football landscape.
“Kurt (Okraku, the current GFA President) is doing his best… but Nyantakyi was Vice President of CAF, a member of FIFA’s Executive Council.
Now, Kurt is also aiming for a seat on the CAF Executive Council. If Kwesi was still in place, Kurt could have also been added to the leadership structure. The Anas exposé has taken our football 50 years back,” Arhin added.
Nyantakyi’s case had been one of the most high-profile corruption scandals in African football, leading to widespread changes within the GFA.
While some praised the exposé for uncovering corruption, others, like Arhin, believe it disrupted Ghana’s footballing progress.
