Taher Mohamed header earns historic win for Al Ahly over Ceramica Cleopatra

Al Ahly claimed their first ever victory in the history of the Egypt Capital Cup, beating holders Ceramica Cleopatra 1 0 away at Arab Contractors Stadium in the second round of Group A.

The decisive moment came in the 35th minute, when Taher Mohamed Taher rose brilliantly to head in a precise cross from Omar Kamal Abdel Wahed, in front of a limited crowd.

Under Danish coach Jess Thorup, Al Ahly showed clear attacking intent from the start, pressing high and creating early chances through Mohamed Sherif, Giradishar and Sadiq Igola. Ceramica, led by Ali Maher, struggled to cope but did threaten sporadically, only to be denied by goalkeeper Mostafa Shobier, who produced an important save to protect the lead.

In the second half, Ceramica threw on Ayman Moka, Justice Arthur and Fakhri Lakay to chase an equaliser, while Al Ahly responded with Ibrahim Adel, Hamza Abdel Karim, Omar Maouad and later Hussein El Shahat to steady the game and manage the result.

Late penalty appeals from Ceramica were waved away by the referee, who soon blew for full time to confirm a hard earned, morale boosting win that lifted Al Ahly to 3 points and left the holders rooted to the bottom with two defeats from two.
