Taha Ali: Sweden winger joins PAOK from Malmo in €2m transfer

Sweden winger Taha Ali has joined Greek side PAOK from Malmo in a €2m permanent deal. The 28-year-old, who was born in Spanga and is also of Somali nationality, has signed a contract with the Thessaloniki club until 30 June 2029.

Ali moves to the Greek Super League after helping Malmo establish domestic dominance in recent seasons. The right-footed left winger was part of the Malmo side that won back-to-back Allsvenskan titles in 2023 and 2024 and lifted the Swedish Cup in 2024.

He arrives in Greece with solid top-flight experience, having made 121 league appearances in the Allsvenskan, scoring 13 goals and providing 18 assists. Ali has also featured in European competition, recording games and goals in Champions League qualifying and the Europa League, adding continental pedigree to PAOK’s attacking options.

Ali joined Malmo from Helsingborgs IF in February 2023 after an impressive spell that followed earlier stints with Orebro SK, Vasteras SK and Sollentuna. His rise through the Swedish divisions has been marked by consistent attacking output, including double figures in goals during his time in Ettan Norra.

Most recently, Ali played in the 2026 Allsvenskan campaign, contributing a goal and an assist in six appearances for Malmo before making the switch to Thessaloniki. He also appeared at the 2026 World Cup, adding tournament exposure to his experience, albeit in a limited role.

The move sees Ali end his time in Sweden’s top flight to embark on a new chapter with PAOK on a long-term deal running to the summer of 2029.
