Central African Republic Athletes Compete at African Taekwondo Championship Despite Crisis
Tunis, Tunisia – In the face of the ongoing crisis in the Central African Republic, the nation is still making its mark at the African Taekwondo Championship in Tunis this week. Despite the country’s financial difficulties and the inability of the national authorities to send a full delegation, two Central African athletes have made the journey to compete in the prestigious event, which takes place on Wednesday and Thursday.
Representing the Central African Republic in the competition are Patrick Doui in the -68 kg category and René Christophe Alazoula in the -87 kg category. Both athletes, despite the challenges at home, have shown immense determination to participate and showcase their skills on the continental stage.
According to the African Press Agency (APA), the two competitors financed their own travels to the Tunisian capital, as the Central African Taekwondo Federation was unable to provide support due to the financial strains the country is currently facing.
Patrick Doui competed on Wednesday, while René Christophe Alazoula will take to the mat on Thursday. Their participation in the event, despite the absence of official backing, highlights their resilience and dedication to the sport.
While the Central African delegation may be small, the presence of Doui and Alazoula at the African Taekwondo Championship serves as a testament to the athletes’ determination and the country’s pride in supporting its sportsmen even in the face of adversity.
