Former Super Eagles assistant coach Sylvanus Okpala has voiced concerns over the progress of the national team under current head coach Eric Chelle.

“I am not saying he is not a good coach. He is a good coach. He has his contract to run. I understand he still has about one year left,” he told The Punch.

“He has tried his best, and we’ve had fantastic games. But his best is not where we are supposed to be,” he added.

Okpala’s remarks underline growing scrutiny of Chelle’s tenure, as expectations rise for Nigeria to translate talented squads into consistent results.

While acknowledging Chelle’s efforts, Okpala emphasized that the team has yet to reach the level demanded by fans and stakeholders alike.

With key qualifiers and tournaments approaching, the pressure is mounting for the Super Eagles to find sharper cohesion and performance under Chelle’s leadership.
