Switzerland international of Nigerian descent Manuel Akanji has set his sights on a permanent move to Inter Milan, expressing his eagerness to continue his journey with the Italian giants at the expiration of his loan spell.

The 30-year-old rock-solid defender joined Inter Milan in the summer and has established himself as a key member of the team. Since joining the club, Akanji has made 13 appearances across competitions this campaign.

The loan agreement includes an option for a permanent deal next summer worth 15 million Euros.

However, the Swiss-Nigerian defender has reiterated his desire to remain with the Italian giants beyond his current deal.

“I hope to join Inter permanently. We’ll see what happens this season and then decide together with the club. I don’t know — it depends on how the season goes, but right now I’m very happy here,” Akanji said.

Akanji opted to represent Switzerland at the international level at the expense of Nigeria and has since made 77 appearances, scoring four goals for the European country.
