Swedish-Ghanaian youngster Genesis Antwi signs new three-year deal at Chelsea

Chelsea have secured the future of promising defender Genesis Antwi after the Sweden youth international of Ghanaian descent signed a new three-year contract with the club.

The deal also includes an option for a further two years.

The 18-year-old, who joined the Blues’ Academy as an Under-12, has steadily risen through the ranks at Cobham.

Last season, he featured 19 times for the Under-18s, scoring twice, before making the step up to the Under-21s, where he registered 12 appearances.

Antwi has continued his development with the Under-21s this term and recently caught the eye with a well-taken opener in Chelsea’s thrilling 3-2 UEFA Youth League win over Bayern Munich – a goal that capped off a flowing team move involving nearly the entire side.

His progress has not gone unnoticed by the senior setup. He was included in the matchday squad for Chelsea’s Premier League win over Leicester City in March and made his first-team debut shortly afterwards, coming off the bench in the Europa Conference League clash against FC Copenhagen.

He also featured in the semi-final against Djurgarden.

On the international stage, Antwi has already represented Sweden at the Under-19 level, further underlining his growing reputation as one of Chelsea’s brightest academy talents.
