Alexander Isak has admitted his frustration after suffering a broken leg that will keep him out of action for several months, describing the setback as a bitter blow at a moment when momentum appeared to be building.
The Liverpool forward was injured during the Premier League victory over Tottenham and now faces a prolonged spell on the sidelines, a development that has disrupted both his club season and personal ambitions.
The 26-year-old, who has Eritrean heritage, sustained the injury in the act of scoring during Liverpool’s 2-1 win, following a collision with Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven.
The incident occurred as Isak converted a decisive effort, but the impact left him requiring immediate medical attention.
Liverpool later confirmed that the striker had undergone successful surgery on December 22 and is expected to be unavailable for between three and four months.
Isak has since addressed supporters through social media, offering a measured but emotional response to the injury.
“Gutted to be out for a while. Time to recover and support from the sideline. I will work hard to be back as soon as I possibly can,” he wrote. He also acknowledged the wave of support that followed the announcement of his diagnosis, adding: “Thank you all reds and everyone else for the kind messages, it does not go unnoticed.”
The injury represents a significant interruption for both player and club, with Liverpool losing a key attacking option at a demanding stage of the season.
Isak had been growing into his role and contributing decisively, making the timing of the setback particularly unfortunate. His rehabilitation is expected to be carefully managed, with the medical team prioritising a full recovery over any accelerated return.
