Alexander Isak has reportedly requested a major pay increase at Newcastle United, as interest from Liverpool and Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal intensifies around the Swedish-Eritrean striker.
The 25-year-old, who has Eritrean roots but represents Sweden at international level, enjoyed another prolific season under Eddie Howe, netting 27 goals and assisting six more in 42 appearances across all competitions.
His performances have made him a target for top clubs in Europe and beyond, prompting contract negotiations with Newcastle to take a new turn.
According to talkSPORT, Isak has asked for a new deal worth £300,000 per week—a significant rise from his current terms—as he seeks to cement his place as one of the Premier League’s top earners.
Newcastle are keen to keep the striker, especially with the club set for a return to the UEFA Champions League next season, but the size of the wage demand presents a major decision for the club’s hierarchy.
Liverpool are reportedly monitoring the situation, though they are also close to signing French-Cameroonian striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.
Meanwhile, Al-Hilal remain prepared to make a substantial offer to lure Isak to Saudi Arabia.
Newcastle still hold a strong hand, with Isak under contract at St James’ Park until 2028. Any transfer would therefore require a substantial fee, likely north of £100 million.
The Magpies are hopeful that negotiations will result in an agreement to keep their star forward long-term. Isak, who joined the club from Real Sociedad in 2022, has become a fan favourite and a central figure in Howe’s plans.
Should the wage demands be met, the deal would make Isak one of the highest-paid players in Newcastle’s history.
