Bafé Gomis Linked with Possible January Exit from Swansea, Newcastle Interested
Just months after joining Swansea City as a free agent, Bafétimbi Gomis may already be on his way out. According to The Sun, the French striker is attracting interest from Premier League rivals, particularly clubs outside the current top-flight contenders.
The most serious suitor appears to be Newcastle United, a club that has long admired the former Olympique Lyonnais forward. Back in 2013, Newcastle had reached an agreement with OL chairman Jean-Michel Aulas, only for Gomis to reject the move at the last minute.
Now, with Newcastle struggling and planning for a major January transfer window, they may revisit their interest in the Frenchman. Gomis, who joined Swansea after running down his contract with Lyon, is seen as a potential solution to the Magpies’ scoring woes.
However, several obstacles remain:
-
Swansea, currently fifth in the Premier League, may be reluctant to part with a key attacking option midway through the season.
-
Gomis has yet to secure a consistent starting role but could still be viewed as an important squad player by the Swans.
-
The uncertain future of Newcastle manager Alan Pardew could also complicate negotiations, as a new coach might have different transfer priorities.
While Gomis’s move remains speculative at this stage, his future at Swansea could be one to watch as the January transfer window approaches.
