Chinese officials have stepped up their probe ever since the death of Aaron Boupendza before his time. Increasingly in suspicion is currently the brother of the Gabonese striker.

The 28-year-old footballer who represented Zhejiang FC within the Chinese Super League fell off the 11th floor building of his apartments in Hangzhou on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

His death, which at first was being treated as a sad accident, is now shadier as the police investigate possible foul play.

Accounts indicate that Boupendza and his brother were involved in a heated argument prior to the fall.

Witnesses and neighbours allegedly heard loud shouting, and those who are inside the investigation reveal that the misunderstanding might have escalated to physical fighting.

Police are also investigating whether the altercation could have led to Boupendza being pushed out of the apartment window.

Boupendza’s brother, who was in the vicinity when his brother leaped, is being questioned and may be taken in for custody as evidence is being processed.

Offices are also reviewing surveillance tapes, telephone records, and forensic data from the apartment to determine what actually occurred in the events leading up to the fatal fall.

As the investigation progresses, the football community is stunned, heartbroken, and shocked.

What initially appeared to be a tragic tragedy could end up being a case of domestic violence resulting in a homicide.
