Super Falcons forward, Ifeoma Onumonu, has officially announced her retirement from professional football at the age of 31, closing a chapter marked by talent, resilience, and inspiration.

In a heartfelt statement, Onumonu reflected, “It is with a heart full of gratitude that I bid farewell to my playing career on the pitch.” She recounted her early days playing with “the Magic,” where her pure love for the game blossomed: “All I wanted to do was run as fast as I could and score. I didn’t much care about winning or losing; I just loved playing.”

Born in the United States, the dynamic striker initially wore the Stars and Stripes at U-23 level before switching allegiance to Nigeria. Her journey with the Super Falcons was crowned by their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph, which she described as an “incredible journey.”

Onumonu’s last club was Montpellier in France, but her words echoed love for football that transcends clubs and countries: “Though my time as a player has come to an end, my love and devotion for this game will never waver.”

She ended her statement by thanking all the staff, teammates, coaches, doctors, fans, and friends for their unwavering support throughout the years.
