Sundowns in talks to sign AmaZulu defender Wandile Dube before deadline

Mamelodi Sundowns are in negotiations with AmaZulu over a possible late move for defender Wandile Dube, with the PSL transfer window due to close on Monday night.

KickOff has learnt that the recently crowned FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup champions are attempting to complete a deal for the 22-year-old before the deadline, although discussions between the two clubs remain ongoing.

Dube is regarded as one of the most promising defenders to emerge in South Africa. His primary position is left centre-back, but he can also operate at left-back, making him a versatile option for Sundowns.

The defender was promoted from AmaZulu’s DStv Diski Challenge squad at the start of the 2025/26 season. He made 10 appearances for the senior side as AmaZulu finished fourth in the Betway Premiership standings.

AmaZulu head coach Arthur Zwane has previously described Dube as “a rare breed”, while also warning that the young defender should not be exposed to too much pressure too early in the campaign.

AmaZulu have maintained the form that helped them finish fourth last season and occupied the same position during the first FIFA International break.

Sundowns have already enjoyed one of their busiest transfer windows, adding Antonio Van Wyk, Deano Van Rooyen, Cassius Mailula, Thabo Cele, Thabang Matuludi and Siyanda Ndlovu to a squad competing extensively on the international stage.

The potential signing of Dube would provide further defensive depth as the transfer window enters its final hours.

AmaZulu’s official website describes the defender as a player capable of performing effectively in either central defence or at left-back.

“This versatile defender is capable of operating effectively at either centre-back or left-back. He prides himself on being a dedicated gym enthusiast, which complements his on-field contributions,” Dube’s biography states.

The profile also highlights his leadership and distribution, saying he is “a strong communicator” who helps organise the defensive line and can deliver accurate passes.

“A strong communicator, he plays a key role in marshalling the defensive line while also possessing a keen eye for executing precise passes. Beyond match preparation, Dube demonstrates his commitment by spending significant time in the gym and analysing football matches to further deepen his understanding of the sport he deeply values.”

Sundowns’ interest comes as the club seeks to finalise its recruitment before the PSL deadline, with the talks over Dube yet to reach a conclusion.
