Mamelodi Sundowns have suffered a major setback ahead of their CAF Champions League final clash against AS FAR after defender Keno Kobedi picked up an injury during domestic action.

The incident occurred during Sundowns’ league match against Kaizer Chiefs in the 27th round of the South African top flight, where the defender, also referred to as Cupido in some reports, was forced to leave the pitch before the end of the first half after suffering what is believed to be a serious injury.

The setback comes at a crucial time for Sundowns and head coach Miguel Cardoso, who is preparing his squad for one of the biggest fixtures of the season in the continental final.

CAF has already confirmed the schedule for the two-legged final between Sundowns and AS FAR.

The first leg will be played on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at the Tshwane Stadium with kick-off set for 16:00 local time (14:00 GMT). The return leg will take place a week later on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, starting at 20:00 local time (19:00 GMT).

The injury blow adds to Sundowns’ concerns as they prepare for a demanding final against the Moroccan giants, with squad depth and defensive stability now expected to play a key role in deciding the outcome of the tie.
