Sunderland weigh move for Sporting’s Mozambique winger Geny Catamo
Mozambican winger Geny Catamo is attracting interest from Sunderland, with the Sporting player linked with a move to the Premier League club. No transfer has been confirmed and there is no indication that an agreement has been reached.
Catamo, 25, plays on the right wing and has been with Sporting’s senior side since joining from Sporting B in July 2023. He has a contract with the Portuguese club until 30 June 2028, meaning Sporting are under no immediate pressure to sell.
The left-footed attacker has made 106 Liga Portugal appearances, scoring 17 goals and providing 12 assists. He has also played 19 times in the Champions League, scoring twice and registering three assists.
Catamo has won the Portuguese league twice with Sporting, in 2023-24 and 2024-25, and was part of the squad that lifted the Portuguese Cup in 2025. His current market value is €25m.
Sunderland’s reported interest comes as the English club, who are listed as a Premier League side in the proposed move, explore the possibility of adding Catamo to their attack. The information available does not include a proposed fee, negotiations between the clubs or a probability of the transfer being completed. Catamo remains a Sporting player with two years left on his contract.
