Sunderland still dream of Amad Diallo return
Sunderland are still dreaming of bringing Amad Diallo back to the Stadium of Light, with their admiration for the Manchester United winger stretching back to his unforgettable loan spell in the Championship.
During the 2022-23 season, the Ivorian lit up the division, making 42 appearances for the Black Cats, including 39 league games in which he scored 14 goals and became a fan favourite.
Since that breakout campaign, Sunderland have tried several times to re-sign Amad, but United have rejected each approach. Even so, he remains their ideal signing, and the club now hope that being in the Premier League themselves might slightly improve their chances of persuading United to do business.
However, a reunion looks unlikely for now. Amad is understood to be happy at Old Trafford, where he plays an important role under Michael Carrick and is preparing to return to the Champions League for the first time since the 2021-22 season, when he made a single appearance in the competition for United. With his status growing at the club, Sunderland’s dream may have to stay just that a little while longer.
