Sunderland rule out Brian Brobbey sale in January

Premier League outfit Sunderland have taken a firm stance on Dutch-Ghanaian attacker Brian Brobbey ahead of the January transfer window.

Brobbey has emerged as a top transfer target for several clubs in Europe including Manchester United, who are keen on bolstering their attack this winter, but Sunderland are unwilling to consider a mid-season departure.

The 24-year-old has emerged as one of Sunderland’s key attacking players since his arrival and has attracted considerable attention from some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.

Brobbey was also linked with Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Chelsea during the summer transfer window, but Sunderland ultimately decided to retain the striker.

His current contract with the Black Cats runs until the summer of 2029, giving the club significant control over his future and putting them in a strong position to resist approaches during the season.

Manchester United could reportedly revisit their interest when the January window opens as they continue to explore possible additions to their attack.

However, Sunderland have already made their position clear, with the club having no intention of allowing one of their important players to leave midway through the campaign.

The Sunderland hierarchy also values Brobbey highly, with his market value reportedly estimated at around £50 million.

The Dutch international has already demonstrated his goalscoring ability in the Premier League, including a standout performance against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, where he scored a hat-trick.

That performance has further highlighted his attacking qualities and could increase interest in his services ahead of the January window.

For Manchester United, any attempt to sign Brobbey would therefore depend not only on their willingness to meet Sunderland’s valuation but also on whether the English club can persuade Sunderland to reconsider their stance on a January transfer.

With the striker tied to the club until 2029, Sunderland are under no immediate pressure to sell, while their reluctance to weaken the squad during the season could make negotiations particularly challenging.

Brobbey’s future is therefore likely to remain a talking point as Manchester United continue their search for attacking reinforcements ahead of the winter transfer window.
