Steve Mandanda, the long-time Olympique de Marseille (OM) goalkeeper, was widely expected to leave the club during the last summer transfer window. However, his plans were derailed following an injury sustained just before the 2014 World Cup, which significantly cooled interest from several major clubs.
According to L’Équipe, Sunderland was the only English club to make a concrete offer for the Franco-Congolese international. Mandanda, however, declined the offer, reportedly unimpressed by the proposal or the project offered by the Premier League side.
Instead, Mandanda chose to remain at OM, likely with an eye on maintaining his form and value for a potential move in a future window. Whether interest from bigger clubs resurfaces in the summer transfer window will largely depend on his fitness, consistency, and performance in the coming months.
