The Confederation of African Football (CAF), has appointed Sudanese referee Mahmoud Ali Mahmoud as the referee for the finale group game between Zamalek and Kaizer Chiefs in the CAF Confederation Cup.
In a highly competitive clash this weekend, the Egyptian giants will play host to the South African outfit at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium on Saturday, a match that could decide the winner of Group D.
Zamalek’s qualification suffered a setback at the weekend after Zambian powerhouse pulled off a major upset to defeat the Egyptian club to record their first win in the group.
Kaizer Chiefs, on the other side, had achieved a 2-1 victory over Al Masry to go top of their group ahead of the final round of games.
Ahead of the match, the continental football governing body has settled on Sudanese refereeing team to take charge of the Zamalek-Kaizer Chiefs clash.
Mahmoud Ali Mahmoud will officiate the match as the main referee, assisted by Mohamed Abdullah Ibrahim and Omar Hamed. Meanwhile, Amr Ismail will be the fourth official in the match.
Mahmoud Ali has previously officiated 10 matches for Egyptian teams during his career, during which the teams achieved victory in 6 matches, two draws and two defeats.
This will be the first time Mahmoud Ali will officiate Zamalek match in his career as a referee.
Zamalek currently occupies second place in the Confederation Cup group standings with 8 points, two points behind leaders Kaizer Chiefs and one point behind Al Masry in third place.
