Al Hilal have secured the Mauritanian Premier League, marking a significant milestone for African football after an outstanding guest season that attracted the continent’s attention.
The Sudanese giants played as a guest in the Mauritanian top-flight including Al Merreikh due to the suspension of football in the country.
Both clubs were granted special approval to participate in the Mauritanian top-flight by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) due to unrest in Sudan.
The move, coordinated with the Mauritanian Football Federation, aimed to help Sudanese clubs maintain match fitness and competitive rhythm during turbulent times.
Al Hilal wrapped up their season with a 2-1 win over ASC Gendrim on Sunday. Goals from Ahmed Salem and Aime Tendeng sealed victory, capping an inspiring campaign that ended with the Sudanese giants topping the table—though only in honorary fashion.
FC Nouadhibou had already clinched the official 2024 Mauritanian league title on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Inter Nouakchott.
