Egypt and Pyramids left-back Mohamed Hamdy has undergone successful surgery in Germany after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament during the Africa Cup of Nations.
The 30-year-old sustained the serious knee injury in Egypt’s round of 16 clash against Benin, forcing him off and ruling him out of the rest of the tournament.
The Egyptian Football Association, in coordination with Pyramids, quickly completed all travel and medical arrangements to send the player to Germany for the operation. Pyramids physiotherapist Luis Esteves joined Hamdy in Munich to support him through surgery and will remain by his side until he returns to Cairo to start the first phase of rehab.
Hamdy will stay under medical observation in Germany for a period after the procedure, as doctors monitor his progress and determine the appropriate time for him to fly back and begin a structured recovery and conditioning program. The aim is to ensure he regains full fitness safely before rejoining club and national team duties.
Meanwhile, Egypt’s squad, led by Hossam Hassan, has travelled from Tangier to Casablanca to face Nigeria on Saturday in the third-place playoff.
The team held recovery and fitness sessions on Thursday as they look to finish the tournament on a positive note despite recent disappointment.
