Stuttgart open to selling Morocco star El Khannouss to fund transfer plans

VfB Stuttgart are reportedly prepared to consider selling Morocco international Bilal El Khannouss during the summer transfer window as the Bundesliga club looks to raise funds for new signings and major infrastructure projects.

According to German publication ZVW, Stuttgart are aiming to finish the transfer window with a financial surplus, with player sales expected to play a key role in financing both squad improvements and long-term investment plans.

Despite posting record revenues for the 2025 financial year, the club is said to require additional income to help fund projects including the redevelopment of its administrative headquarters and the acquisition of the Carl Benz Centre.

El Khannouss identified as leading sale candidate

ZVW reports that El Khannouss has emerged as the club’s most valuable asset should a suitable offer arrive.

“Bilal El Khannouss is one of the main candidates for sale should a suitable offer be received by VfB Stuttgart,” the publication wrote.

The Moroccan midfielder joined Stuttgart on a permanent deal last year for a reported €18 million after a successful loan spell from Leicester City. He signed a contract running until June 2028 and quickly established himself as one of the club’s key creative players.

Strong valuation after impressive campaign

Stuttgart are reportedly seeking between €40 million and €50 million for the 22-year-old, with a transfer in that range expected to provide the club with significant financial flexibility.

El Khannouss enjoyed another productive season in Germany, making 25 Bundesliga appearances, including 19 starts, while contributing four goals and five assists.

His performances have also enhanced his reputation on the international stage following an impressive campaign with Morocco at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Player’s future remains uncertain

The report also claims the Moroccan playmaker has become frustrated by a reduction in playing time during the second half of last season, adding to speculation over a possible departure.

Although Stuttgart have yet to receive an official bid, interest in El Khannouss is reportedly growing across Europe.

With the transfer window still open, the Bundesliga club could opt to cash in on one of Morocco’s brightest talents if an offer matching their valuation arrives before the deadline.
