Rising Moroccan star Gessime Yassine has completed a high profile move to RC Strasbourg in a deal worth seven million euros, arriving with the task of boosting the Alsatian club’s attack after winning the U-20 World Cup with Morocco and shining for USL Dunkerque.
The winger has signed a long term contract running until 30 June 2030, underlining Strasbourg’s faith in his potential.
Yassine joins from Dunkerque as the top assist provider in Ligue 2 and had also attracted strong interest from Lille during the winter transfer window. Born in Salon de Provence, he was officially unveiled to the media on Wednesday, marking a major step forward after two seasons of steady growth in northern France.
Last autumn, Yassine helped the Atlas Cubs claim the world title in Chile, scoring two goals and delivering three assists during the tournament. Reflecting on that success, he remained grounded, saying it gave him confidence but reminding that “it’s just a trophy” and that an injury could stop everything overnight, showing his awareness of football’s fragility.
A big admirer of Andres Iniesta, the left footed winger is not rushing his Ligue 1 ambitions. He insists he will work hard in training to reach the required level, aiming first to earn a few minutes here and there and simply be part of the matchday squad as he adapts.
Strasbourg fans already had a glimpse of his talent in the French Cup last December, when he tormented their defense for Dunkerque, winning a penalty after drawing a foul from Diego Moreira. With six assists in just thirteen league appearances this season, his vision, dribbling and creativity convinced the Racing hierarchy to invest heavily in a player they hope will become a key attacking weapon at the Stade de la Meinau for years to come.
