Steven Gerrard praises Mohamed Salah’s professionalism

Steven Gerrard has applauded Mohamed Salah’s response to being left on the bench in Liverpool’s 2-0 Champions League quarter-final first-leg defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, calling it the behaviour of a true professional.

Despite the disappointment, Salah chose to stay on the pitch after the final whistle to complete extra running and conditioning work.

Speaking on TNT Sports, Gerrard highlighted the 33-year-old’s mentality and commitment to staying at the top level. “Credit to him… he’s just stayed behind now and done extra running… which shows the pro he is and mentality you’re dealing with,” the Liverpool legend said, clearly impressed by Salah’s attitude.

Gerrard knows the feeling of being left out on a big European night, recalling his own experience of being dropped away to Real Madrid. He believes Salah will be “hurting inside” but expects the forward to channel that frustration into a powerful response ahead of the second leg at Anfield and the upcoming Premier League clash with Fulham. For Gerrard, Salah’s reaction underlines why he remains one of the most respected figures in the Liverpool dressing room.
