Steven Fortes, the undisputed leader and captain of RC Lens, faces an extended absence from the pitch following a knee injury sustained in mid-September. The Cape Verdean defender, who suffered a torn meniscus, was initially expected to return at the end of October but has remained sidelined since then, prompting concern among fans and analysts alike.
According to La Voix du Nord, Fortes recently underwent a second operation on his meniscus, which will keep him out of action for at least six more weeks. This means the stalwart defender is unlikely to make his return to Ligue 2 competition before mid-January.
Despite the absence of their captain, RC Lens has continued to perform strongly in his absence. The Sang et Or currently sit at the top of Domino’s Ligue 2, demonstrating the squad’s resilience and depth even without their defensive leader. Fortes’ eventual return will provide an added boost as the team aims to maintain its position and push for promotion, but for now, Lens must navigate the coming months without one of its key figures.
