Ghanaian winger Stephen Amankona is being linked with an exit from Egyptian side Smouha that could leave him without a club, according to data indicating a 33% probability of a move to free-agent status.

The 25-year-old, currently valued at €125k, is listed as a rumoured departure from the Egyptian Premier League club, with his next destination recorded simply as “Without Club”. That suggests one scenario under consideration is an early termination or non-extension of his stay in Alexandria, which would make the right-footed left winger available on a free.

No agreement has been finalised and there is no confirmed contract start or end date associated with any potential next move. However, the latest update to his market value at Smouha in December 2025, coupled with the 33% likelihood figure, has prompted speculation that the Ghanaian could soon be on the lookout for a new employer.

Amankona only joined Smouha from Berekum Chelsea in July 2025, having previously spent time with Asante Kotoko and enjoyed an earlier spell at Berekum Chelsea either side of a loan stint with MTK Budapest’s U19s in Hungary. His experience ranges from youth football in Europe to senior action in Ghana’s top flight and now Egypt’s Premier League, giving him a varied footballing background despite a relatively modest valuation.

Earlier in his career his market value peaked at around €175k while at Berekum Chelsea, before settling at its current €125k level following his move to Smouha. He has been deployed primarily as an attacking left winger, operating on his stronger right foot to cut inside.

Should the mooted path to free agency materialise, Amankona’s next step is likely to be crucial, offering either a springboard back towards his previous valuation or a challenging reset as he seeks to re-establish himself at a new club.
