Stéphane Omeonga and Panserraikos relegated after heavy defeat in Greece
Stéphane Omeonga and Panserraikos FC were unable to complete their survival mission in the Greek top flight after suffering a heavy 6-0 defeat away to Atromitos FC on the final day of the relegation group stage.
The result confirmed the end of Panserraikos’ hopes of remaining in the division, despite entering the closing fixtures with a slim opportunity to avoid relegation.
To stay up, the club needed victories in their final two matches of the campaign, but they managed only one point from a possible six.
Atromitos, who had already secured their survival two days earlier, produced a dominant performance in front of their home supporters.
The side featured both Rudi Makana Baku and Samuel Moutoussamy, although Moutoussamy was later released to join the Democratic Republic of the Congo national team ahead of World Cup duties.
Omeonga played in the match, but Panserraikos struggled throughout against a confident Atromitos side that took full control of the contest from the opening stages. The defeat ultimately sealed relegation and ended the club’s difficult campaign on a painful note.
The consequences of dropping out of the top division are expected to extend beyond the pitch. Relegation is likely to place financial pressure on the club, with departures anticipated during the summer transfer window as the management reshapes the squad for life outside the top tier.
Attention will now turn to rebuilding and preparing for an attempt to secure an immediate return to the Greek first division. Recruitment decisions during the off-season are expected to play a key role in determining whether the club can respond positively to the setback.
On an individual level, Omeonga completed the season with 31 appearances. Baku enjoyed a productive campaign with 40 matches, scoring 13 goals and providing 10 assists, while Moutoussamy finished with 35 appearances and three goals.
For Panserraikos, however, the campaign will ultimately be remembered for a missed opportunity to escape relegation during the final weeks of the season.
