Stellenbosch FC sign experienced midfielder Tlakusani Mthethwa from Richards Bay

Stellenbosch FC have strengthened their squad ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season with the signing of experienced midfielder Tlakusani Mthethwa from Richards Bay FC.

The Cape Winelands club confirmed that Mthethwa has joined the team as a free agent after leaving Richards Bay, bringing with him years of top-flight experience and leadership qualities that are expected to add value to Gavin Hunt’s squad.

Mthethwa had been on Hunt’s radar for some time, with the Stellenbosch head coach understood to be keen on adding the veteran midfielder to his ranks. The deal represents another important move by Stellies as they continue to build a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts.

The 33-year-old joins Stellenbosch after an impressive spell with Richards Bay, where he played a key role both on and off the pitch. The midfielder most recently served as captain of the KwaZulu-Natal-based club, demonstrating his leadership qualities and influence within the dressing room.

The experienced midfielder arrives with a wealth of knowledge of South African football, having previously represented Moroka Swallows FC before his move to Richards Bay.

Throughout his career, Mthethwa has established himself as a reliable performer in the country’s top division, making more than 100 Betway Premiership appearances. His consistency, tactical understanding and ability to control the tempo of matches have made him a respected figure among his peers.
