Stellenbosch FC coach Gavin Hunt’s future hangs in the balance
Stellenbosch FC coach Gavin Hunt is facing an uncertain future at the club, as the Cape winelands club contemplates whether to extend his deal beyond the current season or not.
The former Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United coach, who is on a contract that officially runs until the season’s end has yet to sign a knew deal with the club.
And according to the Chief Executive Officer of the club, Rob Benadie, the decision to continue is not solely in Hunt’s hands.
“Gavin’s initial contract is at the end of the season, and then we’ve got options to go forward,” Benadie explained. “I think you know our club well enough, unless we think things are going well, we’re going to back [him]. Whether you’re the head coach, the assistant coach, the goalkeeping coach, the analyst, we’re going to try and work with you [if all goes well, we continue].”
Benadie stressed the importance of mutual fit and club survival. “Both Gavin, myself and the club, we both said, listen, let’s give it to the end of the season. We’re trying to survive; we’ve got to survive. Let’s see how it goes, let’s see if you fit into the club, and if you like it, and if we like you. It’s a good marriage so far. He’s had a good start, let’s hope it continues for a long time.”
Hunt’s early impact has been encouraging, but the club will take stock at the season’s close to determine if the partnership continues, keeping fans eagerly watching the winelands outfit’s next move.
