Mehdi Carcela has returned to Standard Liège after a stint at Anzhi Makhachkala. He played his first official match with the Belgian club against Lokeren, which they won 2-1. Carcela expressed his happiness at being reunited with the supporters and mentioned that he still lacks rhythm but was satisfied with an hour of play.
The Moroccan international feels content in the group and offered a brief analysis of the derby against Lokeren, stating that they managed the match well, although they could have scored more goals. Carcela believes that aiming for the top three and potentially playing for the title is possible with the talented group. He also highlighted the importance of the coach’s communication, especially for young players.
Carcela returned to Standard Liège three weeks ago after leaving Anzhi Makhachkala. The Belgian club, where he was trained, signed him for three years. It marks a return to his roots, as he played for Standard Liège from 1995 to 2008, during which he participated in 103 official matches and won the Belgian championship in 2009.
