Belgium – Cameroonian international Collins Fai is poised to join Standard Liège, having reached an agreement with the Belgian club on a four-and-a-half-year contract. The right-back, who has been capped by Cameroon since October 2015, is currently in Romania and awaiting a visa before finalizing the move at Standard’s Sclessin training centre.
Fai, 23, has spent the past three seasons at Dinamo Bucharest, where he established himself as a key figure in the Romanian side’s defence. Known for his explosive pace and physical strength, the full-back is comfortable on the right flank but is also expected to provide competition on the left wing following Jelle Van Damme’s departure. Collins Fai’s arrival is part of Standard’s broader plan to strengthen their squad and compete for domestic honours this season.
Speaking to the Romanian press, Fai expressed his surprise at the speed of the transfer. “This transfer was a big surprise for me, but I’m very happy. I didn’t think everything could happen so quickly. Through a Portuguese agent, I was told that the club was interested in my services and I responded positively. That’s all,” he said.
The Cameroonian defender emphasised the personal and professional significance of the move. “It’s a big step forward in my career. This transfer is a new challenge. I hope to be able to take it on and, in doing so, prolong my dream. I had to leave Romania quickly, but I will certainly return to greet my now former teammates. My only regret is ultimately having to get used to a completely different environment when I had acclimatised well to Romania.”
Fai’s attributes – a combination of stamina, speed, and technical ability – make him an exciting addition to Standard Liège’s defensive line. The club’s management is optimistic that he can immediately strengthen the squad and contribute to their ambitions in domestic competitions.
Standard’s coaching staff view Fai as a versatile option capable of reinforcing both defensive solidity and offensive support down the flanks. His signing aligns with the club’s strategy to recruit players who can make an instant impact while also providing long-term value.
Beyond the tactical advantages, Fai also hopes to achieve personal milestones with his new club. “I hope to win a trophy with Standard,” he added – a sentiment echoed by the club as it seeks to challenge for honours this winter and beyond.
While the transfer awaits administrative clearance, Collins Fai’s impending move underscores Standard Liège’s ambition in the winter market and their determination to assemble a squad capable of competing for top honours in Belgium.
